Outdoor home theater = healthy summer fun

OM_Summer-Fun

Do you want to take your entertainment with you while soaking up the sun on your deck, patio or poolside? Want to give your backyard some Fixer Upper love? OmniMount has a wide array of fixed, tilt, full motion and interactive TV mounts to support all-weather televisions. They’re a great option, offering the ultimate in both style and performance.

Many of us have been glued to our television screens this summer, watching exciting sports events, such as Euro 2016, Wimbledon and the Olympic Games. Not to mention binge-watching the new seasons of on-demand series! Outdoor TVs allow us to enjoy shows and movies in the fresh air and sunlight whenever we can.

For those concerned about the dangers of too much sitting, there’s a bonus opportunity here: while the weather is warm and the days are still long, boost your family’s fitness with these outdoor activities and watch the calorie burn start to add up:

Dance party = cut the rug for 11 minutes to burn up 56 calories.

De-stress with yoga = lightly stretching for 17 minutes burns 50 calories.

Play catch with the kids = toss the ball for 18 minutes and burn 54 calories.

Mow the lawn = give the grass a trim for 8 minutes and torch 52 calories.

Beautify the garden = weed flowerbeds (or planters) for 10 minutes to burn 59 calories. (Beautiful blooms are a bonus.)

Play with your pet = Fido loves fetch, plus 15 minutes can burn 50 calories for you.

Pretend you’re Bobby Flay = fire up the grill (indoors or out) for 25 minutes and use up 57 calories.

The most important thing is to find a calorie-burning activity that you enjoy. The more you enjoy it, the easier it will be to fit it into your busy lifestyle, and keep up with your favorite shows.

Curved TV’s: why they’re a viewer favorite

OmniMount_Curved-TV

Thinking of embracing the newest “concept entry” in the world of home theater electronics? Sales of curved TV’s are exploding among mainstream consumers, not just tech aficionados eager to buy the latest and greatest. While some still call curved TV’s a gimmick, it does look like they’re here to stay.

The top reasons many viewers have fallen for the curve:

  1. The rounded nature of the TV contours draws you in for an immersive viewing experience.
  2. Depth is deeper, so perception is enhanced, similar to watching a 3D movie.
  3. Width is wider, so the image seems to stretch even further, and is accurate from side views.
  4. Better contrast and sharpness, especially at the edges, makes for a richer picture.
  5. From an interior design perspective, curved TV’s look cool!

Some viewers think the experience rivals that of going to the movies, in fact, many commercial cinemas use curved screens. One consumer electronics reporter sums up his experiment, a month after adding a curved 65-inch TV to his home theater:

“For my efforts, I’ve gained almost 6 pounds, thanks to roughly 32 bags of microwave popcorn washed down with several gallons of Mr. Pibb – and developed a suspicious numbness in my left leg. It was totally worth it…” We’ve got tips for you on staying fit and burning calories while enjoying your TV at home.

The one drawback that we hear often from people considering a curved TV purchase? They’re afraid the shape will make a wall-mount difficult or awkward. Who wants to be limited to a desktop or floor stand display? That defeats the whole home theater look and feel that has made flat screens so popular. No fear. OmniMount’s open architecture product design ensures our wall mounts are compatible with most of the new curved TV’s. They’re also future-proof, so as technology advances, you can keep up — without having to replace your mount.

More questions about choosing a mount for your curved TV? Ask your retailer for assistance or give us a call at 1-800-MOUNT-IT (800-668-6848). Phone support is available 24 hours a day, a 7 days per week.

New curved TV? We’ve got you covered!

CurvedYou just got a curved TV — now what? Don’t be fooled into thinking that you’re limited to a mount for only that TV type. OmniMount’s full motion and interactive wall mounts will still work on a majority of the curved TV’s now hitting the market. You have a range of choices for setting up and enjoying the immersive, wraparound effect of your curved TV.

A wall mount is the safest mount. After purchasing this popular new technology, the last thing you need is to have your curved TV come crashing down because someone knocked it over. Property damage is bad enough, but worse yet is the risk that someone may get hurt.

You need a strong and reliable mount, one that will not fail you when you need it most. Rest easy, durable OmniMount products undergo performance tests that exceed the industry’s most rigid standards.

Curved TV’s are the newest wave of technology, but are they here to stay? That depends on who you ask. Some experts say so, and others say no. Either way, open-architecture design means our mounts will continue to be useful so you won’t have to replace them anytime soon.

OmniMount mounts can be found online and at certain local retailers such as Lowes and Sam’s Club.

How to Keep Technology From Taking Over Your Space

Guest post by Bryn Huntpalmer, editor for Modernize and Her Own WingsTips to hide your TVThese days most families have a TV in their living room but many parents are also becoming more and more conscientious of how much screen time their children are getting. A great compromise is to incorporate a television in a way that doesn’t make it the center of attention.

Ditch the Entertainment Center

Entertainment Centers are bulky, unnecessary and have a tendency to make the television the center of attention in a living space. So ditch that oversized cabinet and replace it with a wall mounted solution. Create a gallery wall by adding your personal touches around the TV to keep the eye from focusing on a television that is powered off.

Hide the TV

There are so many clever ways to hide your television these days. Options range from hidden compartments in the wall, mirrors, paintings or even mock shutters.

Rearrange the Space

When deciding where to put your furniture feel free to step outside of the box and create a setup that doesn’t center around the television. A great way to accommodate this type of set-up is to mount your TV on a swivel mount so the television can adjust to the furniture rather than the furniture accommodating the TV.

Super Bowl Safety Check

Game Time - PLAY25XIf you’re anywhere near as excited for the Super Bowl as we are in Phoenix, chances are you’re planning something fun. Whether the day calls for watching the game with family, out at a bar or over at the neighbor’s, now is a great time to assess the needs of your own home theater, and in particular, your TV mount (or lack thereof). TVs in crowded rooms, especially those with kids and pets, can pose a potential tip hazard. Mounting a large TV to the wall with a UL certified TV mount is the best way to prevent accidental tip-overs, plus, a mount can actually improve the viewing location and angle of the TV, making for an all-around better viewing experience!

So if you haven’t done so, assess the safety of your home theater setup and make sure you’re ready for game day. Have questions? “Techorate” like a pro!

Janna Robinson

The latest buzz in home theater decorating is all about “techorating” and there’s one person in particular that knows a lot about it – lifestyle design and technology expert Janna Robinson. We had the opportunity to ask Janna a couple of questions and find out what the hype is all about, along with getting a couple of trade secrets along the way!

OmniMount: What is techorating, anyways?
Robinson: Techorating, a term LG coined as part of their recent competition “The Sport of Techorating,” is the blending of technology with decorating to create unique and stylish environments. It’s bringing technology into a room in a way that’s functional and fashionable. I also look at it as the softer side of tech, incorporating both into the home to create the ideal environment. Rather than decorating around your electronics, you use the pieces to enhance the overall look.

OmniMount: Is techorating for the man or the woman?
Robinson: It’s gender-neutral! That’s the best part. Often times I hear from women that feel like they’re living in a man cave, but it’s also becoming more common for men to reach the same conclusion for themselves. These days nobody wants his or her tech standing out like a sore thumb.

New Year, New YOU

It’s three weeks into the New Year – are you sticking to your New Year’s resolution?

If you’re like most people, you packed on a few pounds over the holiday season, but resolved in the new year to get back to your svelte self by beach season. You’re not alone. Studies suggest that the number one resolution people make each year involves improved physical fitness and health. According to an article on Quirkology.com, studies also suggest that nearly 90% of those who make a fitness and health resolution give up within the first month of the New Year.

Why, you ask? People want a rocking body without putting forth any effort. They want instant gratification, and when they don’t see results after a certain amount of time, they give up and fall back into their couch potato slump. Little do they know, if they lived a less sedentary lifestyle, their resolution would be easier to obtain. Think about it, the average person sits 12 hours a day at work, during their commute, at meals and at home.

Let’s be honest, a cheeseburger certainly tastes better than a salad, and sitting on the couch is far more intriguing that a 5-mile run. However, if you don’t change your eating habits or incorporate more physical activity in your daily routine, then you are doomed to be a part of that 90%.

So, is there a solution to help you stick to your resolution? Of course there is, and the answer is simple: Just Stand! At work, at home – everywhere, stand as much as you can. Just by standing a few more hours per day, studies show you will burn more calories, be more productive and even reduce your risk of serious diseases. And the best thing is, being less sedentary provides instant gratification, meaning you can feel the difference of standing more each day immediately.

Studies show that those who stood six or more hours a day felt more energized, productive and healthier overall than those who sat for six or more hours a day. You can even stand at work by incorporating a sit-stand desk that allows you to go from standing to sitting with ease.

The results speak for themselves. So what’s your excuse for abandoning your fitness resolution? Isn’t it about time that you take a stand for your health?
