These days, many people spend more time sitting each day than any other activity. Whether it’s staring at a computer screen, plopping in front of the television or reclining on the train on the way to work, sitting for long periods of time can impact your weight and be harmful to your health.
The more you sit, the fewer total calories you burn in a day. Being active for as little as 10 minutes at a time throughout the day can really make a difference. It is the minimum recommendation when you choose to be active, and can result in substantial health benefits—including mental well-being!
This week’s tips:
Choose to be active whenever you can during the day; it can really improve your health. For example:
• Take the stairs when you can, or walk instead of driving when shopping or running errands.
• Schedule an activity break every hour or so. Even if it’s just a brief walk down the hall and back, it helps. Even better, schedule a 10-minute walk!
• Set goals and track your activity by using a Fitbit® or other wearable device. These devices are proven to increase physical activity in people who wear them.
